Our History

Key milestones in the Ottawa Sooners' journey from founding to championship success

1960

Ottawa Sooners Founded

Establishment of the Ottawa Sooners Football Club, marking the beginning of a legacy that would span over six decades of excellence in junior football.

1974

First National Championship

Won the inaugural CJFL National Championship under Head Coach Jim Cherilli, establishing the Sooners as a dominant force in Canadian junior football.

1979

Second National Championship

Captured the second national title under Head Coach Ace Powell, continuing the tradition of excellence and competitive achievement.

1984

Third National Championship

Secured the third national championship under Head Coach Jim Daley, demonstrating sustained excellence across multiple decades.

1992

Fourth National Championship

Claimed the fourth national title under Head Coach Greg Marshall, cementing the Sooners legacy as one of the most successful programs in CJFL history.

2000

CFL Alumni Development

Produced numerous CFL players, establishing the Sooners as a premier development program for professional football talent.
