Remembering Bob Stephen

Bob Stephen was one of the top players in our history. Following his time at St. Pius, Bob was part of the Sooners' national championship squad in 1979. He joined the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1981 and was their centre for five seasons. Following his playing career, he became a minor football coach and mentor with the Myers Riders and the Nepean Redskins. He coached an Eastern Ontario team to gold at the 2004 national championship.

Few people loved the game as much as Bob Stephen.

On February 8, 2009 - at age 50 - Bob died suddenly at his home in Ottawa. Today his family and friends keep his memory alive by holding the annual Bob Stephen Memorial Golf Tournament.  Proceeds from the event go toward amateur football in Ottawa.

This year, the Sooners were delighted to accept a cheque for $5000 in memory of one of our greatest players ever. Our deepest thanks to the Stephen family!
