Through the first two weeks of the OFC season, the fourth quarter hasn't been kind to the Ottawa Sooners. They lost 22-17 to Windsor Saturday night at Keith Harris Stadium, falling to 0 and 2 on the young season. In both games, the Sooners had the lead with under 10 minutes left.
After being pulled from the game earlier, Fratmen QB Austin Lumley threw for a pair of touchdowns in the final quarter. He hit Jason Blondeau with a 56-yard TD pass to pull his team within two points. Then he found Shayne Rice with a 45-yard scoring strike with 1:03 left.
With the game on the line, the Sooners needed just 26 seconds to drive deep into Windsor territory. QB Graham Kelly launched a ball into the end zone for his favourite target on the night, WR Scott Watson. Watson made an incredible leap for the ball, which just trickled off his finger tips. That was as close as the Sooners would get.
After an awful first week, the Sooners made great strides on offence, racking up 369 total yards. Kelly had 13 completions for 243 yards and a touchdown. Watson caught five passes for 125 yards and a score while Tyrone Pierre had 3 catches for 106 yards. Mathew Mondoux rushed for 88 yards on 14 carries.
Ottawa's next game is Saturday at London. The next home game is September 14 vs Hamilton.
