There will be no Ontario Football Conference junior playoffs for the Ottawa Sooners this season. The Sooners’ recovered from an 0-3 start to the regular season with four consecutive victories, but that streak ended with a 28-27 loss to the host St-Léonard Cougars at Montreal on Saturday night.
Even if the Sooners had won that game, though, it wouldn’t have mattered. Hours earlier, the London Beefeaters clinched the fourth and final playoff spot, with a 28-21 decision against the Windsor AKO Fratmen. A Sooner win would have resulted in a 3 way tie for third place with London and St. Leonard but due to a complicated tiebreaker system, Ottawa would still have finished fifth.
London will face the Hamilton Hurricanes (7-1) in one semifinal next week, while Windsor (6-2) plays host to St-Léonard (6-2) in the other.
